Didja Know?
Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man
Jack is a 12-issue limited series published by IDW in
2017-2018.
Didja Notice?
On page 1, Lo Pan describes Wang and Miao Yin's daughter,
Winona, as a "six-out-of-ten", presumably referring to the
10-scale of physical attractiveness. Six seems low considering
"Encino Man" describes her as being
a dead-ringer for her mother.
Also on page 1, Jack offers to play
"Sweet Home Alabama" in hand farts.
"Sweet Home Alabama" is a 1974 song by Lynrd Skynrd. Hand
farting is the act of producing a flatulent-like sound by
squeezing air between one's cupped hands; however, the image of
Jack in panel 3 suggests he is really talking about arm pit
farts, a similar action of squeezing air between one hand and
the opposite arm pit.
The demon Jack faces on pages 6-7 looks rather like Darkness
from the 1985 dark fantasy film Legend.
On page 17, Ching Dai sees Jack reading from Egg's spell book
and exclaims, "Jack! What are you doing?!" and Jack responds,
"Reading! It's fundamental!" This is a reference to the U.S.
non-profit children's literacy organization
Reading Is
Fundamental (RIF) and, even more so probably, to the public
service announcements about the program that aired on Saturday
morning network TV in the 1970s.
